Yes, it does make sense that with the climate undergoing a warming trend that we should not be making it worse. As I said in an earlier post, I believe that it is past the time when we should be moving away from our dependence on fossil fuels for reasons that go beyond the carbon footprint concept. What really worries me are the ideas being floated to attempt to reverse the warming trend. At this point, I don't think that we have a complete understanding of what is really going on with our climate, and so grandiose schemes to cool the planet would be ill advised.

One proposal involves seeding the upper atmosphere with fine silicate dust to reflect sunlight. Another involves fertilizing the oceans to spur algae growth. Our planet's ecosystems and climate are very complex, and schemes such as this have the potiential to do more damage than the warming trend ever would. Improvements in energy efficiency, moving to renewable and nuclear energy sources, development of hydrogen fuel cells, and reforestation are all concepts that I support. Trying to make large scale changes to our atmosphere and oceans are not.
