Another Chicken Little response: The sky is falling!
On the one hand, you state that natural events can emit more CO2 in a few days than we produce in many years, then on the other say that we are totally responsible for destroying our planet. Change, or face extinction!
We are adding CO2 to our atmosphere, but in relatively miniscule quantities. We have measured about a 35% increase in CO2 levels over the last 200 years, but what part of that is caused by our burning of fossil fuels is difficult to measure. We have also depleted the forests of the world, removing some of the ecosystems ability to absorb CO2. Our warming climate will also cause CO2 desolved in the world's oceans to move into the atmosphere. We have also experienced several large volcanic eruptions during the last two centuries, although none of the world changing super eruptions like the one that you mentioned.
Our scientists are currently studying the issues, but are not aided by self serving doomsayers from Hollywood and Washington. I do not dispute that we need to move away from our dependence on fossil fuels, but I do dispute the notion that the sky is falling unless we make radical changes immediately. Our species has survived climate change in the past, and will do so again if we must. - Posted by: itpro_z Posted on: 12/20/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
