A thoughtful response

Thank you for a very thoughtful response. I agree with the majority of what you say, but have a few responses.

Rain forest depletion not only reduces our planets ability to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, but also reduces cloud cover, leading to further warming. This may be offset, however, by the changes in climate towards the polls allowing forests to move into areas now covered by permafrost and sparse vegetation. This also applies to the doomsayers claims of destruction of the coral reefs, which will relocate further away from the equator. The Earth's ecosystems are resilient, and have seen much greater changes in the past.

I agree that we need to move away from fossil fuels (not just oil). From a US perspective, our dependence on imported oil puts us in the position of funding those who oppose us. The technology to end our dependence on fossil fuels is readily available. What we lack is leadership from our government to point us in the right direction. We need a national priority similar to the moon race of the 60s to focus our immense technical resources on changing our entire energy structure. Instead, we get a bandaid approach that will give little overall improvement.
