- Humans have causes the problem
-
Actually global warming has been seen in the past caused by human activity. Back before the black plague there was global warming occurring due the massive depletion of European forests. Then the Black Plague came along and wiped the populations. This allowed the trees to grow back and the world started cooling again.
What's happening today that's similar? We are chopping down rain forests on mass.
I don't believe for one instance that the minute increases in Co2 that we produce is the cause of global warming. One eruption of a volcano dumps more Co2 and other green house gases into the atmosphere than we can produce in 100 years. There is a lake in Africa that belches a cloud of Co2 every 8-12 years that is about the amount of Co2 we produce in 25 years. So driving that SUV isn't the problem Co2 wise though it does pollute in other ways. The problem is we are removing the natural carbon filters of the planet and at the same time we are pumping more Co2 in to the atmosphere.
So here's the dilema. We need food and chopping down forest for grazing and farm land provides the food. At the same time this is causing the world to warm up as there is less forest area to filter out Co2. So do we protect the forests and let people starve or do we accept the world is going to get warmer.
Personally I don't know if global warming is all doom or gloom. Sure it could be but at the same time it could be just change where you adapt or die. Humans are very adaptable. We hate change but we can roll with the punches as well as the best of them on this planet. This spells trouble for environmentally specialized species like the polar bear but even they could change. It's already happening with polar bears mating with other bear species.
The number 1 reason we need to get off fossil fuel is cost followed closely by the pollutions they produce not counting Co2 emissions. There will come a time when Oil just gets too expensive to use in the manner we use it today. The faster we can have measures in place to replace fossil fuels the better off we will be. Big Oil will still be there but the uses for oil will change. We can be proactive now or scramble when it's too late to try and implement something on the fly. So it's a pay now or pay more later type situation. - Posted by: voska1 Posted on: 12/20/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
