- Many printers today use a tiny chip inside the cartridge to tell the printer and hence the user how much ink is left.HP's advertising claims it actually counts gazillions of droplets! There are reset devices available for some ctgs, but I expect this is a ongoing radar/detectors type of war. I also suspect the OEM's are mum about changes so that the refillers will stumble and lose customer confidence each time a slight change is made and the reset system no longer works.
