power
If power consumption gets high, the easy solution will be to add a power jack like on video cards, plug in an unused connector from the PSU and have fun.

I much prefer firewire over USB, much faster and far more convenience to it. I've an older maxtor external drive that uses either USB or firewire, and when using the firewire it's noticably faster. last few motherboards came with firewire, and my latest one without, so I ended up buying a firewire card for it.

As someone said, the stated speed of firewire is pretty close to it's average, the stated speed for USB is a lot like comcast and their 'up to' speeds, having no bearing on reality.

firewire is better, but USB has become a catch phrase, so it will likely be embraced by professional types long before the average user wants it.
