Why did those people not participate? I might have your answer:
Evil loners, scheming since birth to be nasty?

Autistic people, perhaps?

Maybe they were harassed, taunted, and beaten by so many they HAD to clam up - as a survival mechanism.

Where's the philanthropy for those people?

But I agree - anything to help pull people out of their ivory tower is a good thing. Offshoring has been a genuine initiative for me to expand my horizons; and people skills really are not a bad thing. Just those born without the ability or those who lived in an environment that made skills effectively impossible to develop can be very useful people too.

Working in teams is a great thing too. Seriously; a team of techs will always include at least one person who sees a solution the others can't. Everybody learns, grows, and as other issues come by, the others' skills come into proactive play as well.
