It's not a weak argument at all
I don't think anyone could argue with the fact that Microsoft has been using Windows to pedal Internet Explorer. Let's face it Opera is a vastly superior browser, yet they still lag far behind in terms of market share. Why is that? It's because people find that their OS shipped with a browser, so they use that one. If Windows didn't ship with IntEx, what position would it hold in relation to other browsers? Stone dead last.

There's no real impracticality to shipping an OS without a browser, the operating system would still allow people to download files from the internet natively. All you'd need are links on the desktop.

Internet explorer, even v7 has no real place in the modern web. Maybe if it was forced to actually compete with the other browsers rather than just being there, MS would pull their socks up and IntEx would become a decent browser. Competition is good for consumers - it brings down prices (Ok so they're free any way), and it improves the quality of the products. I guarantee that good things will happen if Opera's plea is heard.
