Not so fast...
I don't think Opera's claim is as far-fetched as you make out. I think that it's absolutely right that Microsoft's gaining an unfair advantage over the competition by shipping IE with Windows. Think about it - if Windows didn't come with a browser and you actually had to choose one rather than just sitting with what you've already got, how many people would choose IE? A tiny number. IE is an awful browser.

Having said that, you're right about there being problems to shipping an OS without a web browser - how would people download a browser in the first place? Although I'm sure you could just place links to the installer files on the desktop, or use Windows explorer to browse ftp.

Also, remember that Microsoft has already been forced to stop bundling Windows Media Player with Windows, so don't count think that the motion won't even be considered.

I do hate it when companies use the fact that you've bought one of their products to force you to use more of their products. Like Apple forcing people to use iTunes after buying an iPod, I think it's disgraceful and any attempts to halt that kind of behaviour will be applauded by me.
