Users are targeted victims
Many dealers have taken advantage of the 'crack' in the XP security and are selling the stolen auth coded XP software preinstalled on OEM computers. I was sold one. I followed a complicated trail that led me to the piracy site of Microsoft, and finally got on the phone with a rep. He asked for all the details on the seller (presumably so they could stop them from selling pirated XP), I was glad to coorperate, but he told me, there that nothing would be done for the end users. We were victims and Microsoft does not care. Now that I cannot downlaod SP 1, and many security downloads they say I need, my computer is just a ticking time-bomb for viruses and security breaches. Also I cannot install certain hardware and the drivers for them, and over all, we who have been robbed are the victims. In many cases we are persons with challenged credit profiles and sought these unscrupulous dealers with the best of intentions out of financial necessity. We did not know they had stolen anything, and even after reporting the crime, we are still the victims - I know microsoft could fix our SP 1 problems, but refuses to.
