Fantasy...
You live in a fantasy world if you think Linux isn't ready for the desktop. Many distros are more than ready.

The reality that you MS fans seem to be completely ignorant about is the fact that MS has used it's monopoloy power to control OEM's and all major distribution chains.

For example look at all of the efforts on the part of Dell recently to back away from reports that Dell PC's are being sold in Europe with Linux. MS controls distribution and they can and will make things difficult for Dell and any other OEM which dares to go off the reservation.

The fact is that Linux is very capable open and free and there are good reasons why almost all MS partners are now funding OSDL and Linux. They see it as a way to free themselves of the dictates of Redmond. MS is scared to death of real straight-up competition and will abuse their monopoly to avoid it.

People who want to harness to full power of their machines are better off with *nix. People who want to use a computer without any learning curve or interest in how things work are better off with Apple. MS dominance is coming to and end and they have only themselves to balme. Their efforts to control everything IT is being rejected at an unprecedented pace.
