Overlooked one big trend
I'm surprised that this report overlooked the rise of appliance devices running embedded Linux, which is the trend among those whale killing SoB's in Japan.

Device that access enterprise resources via web services and web 2.0 services will undercut license fees for client software.

Commodity hardware ala Wal-Mart's $200.00 PC running an appliance type OS connecting to services built on OSS server platforms.

The days of gravy train big software are over. If you don't compete on a value basis you're not going to survive.
