Here's one difference
To bring up one of your favorite topics, here's one difference
between the two tickets:

"Those of you who cast your votes for me cast your votes for a
new kind of politics. You wanted a positive campaign, and you
got one for a change." John Edwards

"I haven't seen anything from an incumbent that has been so
sharp and so negative," said Gregory Payne, director of the
Center for Ethics in Political Communication at Emerson College
in Boston. "I think it is a historic first coming out so negative as
Bush has."

Benoit's research at Missouri found that as of mid-May, Bush's
ads contained 48 percent positive messages and 46 percent
attacks. The remaining 6 percent were defenses against attacks.
That is an abnormally low positive percentage for an incumbent
president, Benoit said, adding that incumbents have averaged 65
percent positive messages in their ads since 1952.

Kerry's ads, by contrast, contained 80 percent positive
messages. Challengers have averaged 55 percent positive
messages in their ads since 1952, Benoit said.

In another study, the Campaign Media Analysis Group used a
different methodology that judged ads to be positive or negative
based on the totality of their messages. That study found 75
percent of Bush's ads to be negative and 27 percent of Kerry's.
