Creating power out of thin air

Thermoelectrics: To all the naysayers, thermoelectrics have been under development for quite a while now. But the trick is to get their efficiency UP and cost of production DOWN. I know for a fact that Syrdec is not the only team pursuing this technology.

What would you use such a device for? Basically any process that generates wasted heat. Car engines and computer chips are just two big ones that come straight to mind.
