You were clever to choose some controversial words from the quote. However, it's important to read the whole memo to understand it completely.

Open source advocates always use these tactics.

I remember Eric Raymond doing the same with the Halloween Documents.

Raymond smartly omitted certain parts of the original document to stir the fanatics. Look for Plaintiff's Exhibit 6464 in the case Comes v. Microsoft to read the whole "Linux OS Competitive Analysis" <ocument. Then compare it with the document exposed by Raymond.

If open source is to succeed, its advocates need to be more transparent.
