This is just one model of the PS3, there will always be a higher end model like the 80 gig that will have backward compatibility. If you must have BC in your system. What sony is saying is that your kids have a PS2, they don't need a second one in the PS3 if they want to save some money.

Also BC will return to the 40 gig in terms of a Firmware update. All emulation for previous PlayStation systems gets widdled down to a software version eventually anyway. The PS2 slim version took the same route.

As far as the xbox goes........ LOL 2 more years of system life. RED RING OF DEATH good luck with the RRoD. You'll be pulling your hair out over the fact that the system wasn't worth it to begin with.
