Sorry but you're so very wrong
I used to work for a company (note the used to work for part) that manufactured a device that had a cord plugged into it using a connector that had been common for more than 50 years. A competing company copied the design of our device part for part down to the IC's on the circuit boards. When we sued they counter sued claiming they held the patent on a connector. The competing company immediately asked for and was granted a 60 month continuance. Basically, putting the company I worked for out of business.

The fact is that the company I worked for wasn't a small company and the company that screwed them over wasn't a huge company. It was the way the patent system is set up. Basically, I'm suprised somebody hasn't tried to come up with a patent on iron based oxygen transport systems then sued everybody with a working circulatory system in their bodies. We need a patent office that actually investigates the patents and checks to see if they should be issuing the patents before slamming down that rubber stamp.
