- and there we have it
-
as some have pointed out, as soon as the big-wigs are out of sight off come the wraps and it's back to business as usual ...
1. because IT isn't paid to be neat & tidy ... they're paid to get the CEO's cousin's desktop working _NOW_ no matter what
2. because IT isn't paid to update documentation ... meaning the first change to the rack isn't recorded and after that it doesn't matter 'cause no one will trust the rack map anymore
3. because IT isn't paid to think about the problem ... only yank and poke until it works ... and then item 2 kicks in
4. because IT [staff] isn't paid to plan ahead ... so "ordering the proper length cable" means having a case of 25 footers on hand because there won't be time to order the 8 footer from Black Box (which also means getting Staples' vendor-of-the-month cable instead of a guaranteed-for-life cable)
Obviously one could go on and on but the simple truth is that with the current Euro-paradigm of operating everything by the New York Minute on a shoestring with minimum personnel means that there will never be time to do it right as long as one can get good-enough to pass bytes. - Posted by: ttocsmij Posted on: 10/04/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
