These peole are CIO's???
I lauged out loud when I read the following:

"He said: "The rule should be that wherever a PC or laptop is sold with an installed OS, it must always also be available without an OS but with any utilities the manufacturer feels like including. This will help to limit the monopoly marketing power of the big players, who have an interest in reducing choice and flexibility."

Explain to me Einstein how you will install a utility with no OS to run it on (I am assuming they mean some kind of software utility).

Anyone who knows anything about the induustry knows well and good this would make your PC MORE expensive since:

1. If you buy Windows, you would pay more for it than the OEM

2. The time it takes to install the OS, get drivers, apps etc. installed would outweight whatever small price cut the OEM would give you since the cost of the OS is a lot less than you think when you buy a PC

3. The whole reason why business buy from OEM's is to get the PC up and running as quick as possible so that it can be used to help the business make money.

This whole argument is so stupid it is laughable. If you want a naked PC there are many places to get one. I have bought several of them from vendors on pricewatch.com.

I really wish these idiots would quit crying about the lack of choice, cost of the OS, etc. Factor in the time it would take you to build your own PC, install the OS, then get everything working and you will end up paying more for your computer.
