try working with IBM, Lotus, and MAC. For Lotus, if you use Outlook, they "strongly recommend" to use Lotus Notes, to get their business. It's a business practice to get more people familiar with your product and potentially make more sales. When Linux grows up and learns how a free market system works, they will use these tactics as well.

These tactics aren't inherently evil tactics, they are business practices, meant to increase market share or for compatibility reasons when dealing with companies on a client basis. Or if you do a covention for these companies it would just be poor taste to show up to the convention with dell computers at an IBM convention. Some of it is professional courtesy also.
