Linux wars are the biggest obstacle to adoption
sorry to say dude, but the linux wars(tm) are the biggest hurdle to people adopting it.
I work on average 10+ hours a day, I don't particularly like windows but I don't have to think when doing stuff on it.
Several of the guys I work with love Linux and are playing around with it all the time. Each of them has a passionate position on which distro is best, and each of them has a fav different distro and bags the others for various reasons.

Linux needs to pull it's ass into gear and produce something with the simplicity of consoles. Oh, Microsoft is pushing a console now... I wonder why?
Because people are getting sick of complication.

the guy of linuxmce.com has the right idea - make linux powerful and easy to use. Put a half-decent gui on it and give it to some hicks who don't have the foggiest idea how to operate a PC let alone a DVD player and whammo - 25 minutes later, they have it set up.

By all means keep your individual distros and itch scratching, but for the love of God the linux geekery needs to get a clue and work on a consumer friendly simplified version of linux for the masses.

Make it simple, cute, glossy and hire some graphic design artists to make it look hot. Then make it play games.
