As for deals, it's business. The Mac OEM seems to be doing just fine. I still believe it's not Microsoft's fault that Linux doesn't have some exclusive OEMs of it's own. Too many versions. my thoughts long ago were give up the pride that goes along with dozens of varous distros, have some kind of referendum and determine ONE linux and make it the retail/OEM choice. People don't need 25 more choices in the marketplace. How can you blame the OEMs? Which distro should they choose? It took money and a business leader's influence to get Ubuntu there or Dell would probably still not offer it.

If the communities put down their projects for a time, made ubuntu the easiest to setup and use version that is as easy or easier than Windows, then you have a winner.
