RE: NASA pundits launch debate over space flight
Interesting that NASA, whose charter includes aerospace research, only provides 6% of it's budget to flight activities at less than 50,000 feet. It's 50% of their namesake. I just figured that with more than 10,000 aircraft flying around every second of every day when compared to one space ship ever couple of years the research priorities might be a little out of proportion. Why do we think of Burt Rutan for innovative new aerospace concepts and not NASA while NASA has orders of magnitude more money? 6% - ? 5000 airports and one space launch facility (really only 6% for airplanes). Billions of miles of person-air miles each year and we watch astronauts swallow water bubbles on the space station.
