Not sure I agree with Rutan
The fact is, that the airplane industry is incredibly advanced. Which is precisely the problem.

What do I mean by this? Well, we've had cars around for about as long, and that industry has flourished. And yet its the issue of technical complexity that is the core problem. Why is it, that with all the advances made, we dont yet have flying cars, for example?

If we take Rutans argument, then the technology is certainly available. It just isnt here.

So now, without solving our problems fully on earth, he wants to leapfrog this, and solve our issues of space?

How can we take this seriously, with another technological leap required?

If Burt wants us to take him seriously, why doesnt he get involved in some kind of sky car program, to solve the road congestion that pretty much every human being in a big city suffers from today, rather than solving an expensive problem which will only appeal to the early adopters with big wallets in the forseeable future?
