Red to Green...
I'm of an age when I remember when ALL nuclear power was bad, so I'm fairly amused when I see how Nuclear Red is the new Green. I lived within 40 miles of a nuclear plant for the last 15 years, and there's been nary a problem, so I wouldn't have any problem with a new plant being built in the area. When I hear people talk about the problems with nuclear technology, I point out that when Three Mile Island happened, Carter was in office and TVs were still made in America. 15 years ago my new wife and I bought a brand-new huge TV -- 19 inches! Today, my monitor at work is larger than that. Don't even talk about cell phones.

My point is that in all that time, technology has advanced in so many fields, why wouldn't it have also advanced in nuclear technology and safety?

Plus, as I understand it, by law all commercial nuclear plants in America have to be designed as "breeder reactors", to make plutonium for weapons. If they change the law so that new reactors can be non-breeders (thus reducing the number of times the rods have to be removed, reprocessed, etc.) that would suit me just fine. I think we have enough plutonium right now, and if the military wants more, let them get it from military reactors.
