Not that simple
You see, damages are awarded by juries, made up of people. People who have been
conditioned to think nuclear material is the most toxic, lethal substance on the
planet.

The fact is, processed waste from a nuclear reactor is only really radioactive for a
few months. All the 100,000 year stuff is so low level you could put it in your
drinking water.

Nuclear disposal has thus become more complicated than it needs to. When driven
by knowledge and not hysteria the disposal is simple. Store it on site for 6 months
until the really nasty stuff is decayed to low-level by products. Then pack in steel
drums, ship to a freighter and dump into an oceanic trench where it can be
subducted into the crust.
