Maybe so... but

I would own the land I lived on, and I would have gold coins in my pocket from profitable farming.

In reality, multinational corporations have evolved far beyond what our ancestors envisioned. Corporations were only supposed to be really big partnerships: the shareholders have rights, and the only rights that corporations are supposed to have are the rights to transact business on behalf of the shareholders.

Similarly, the shareholders should not be completely absolved of responsibility for the actions of the corporation. 9 times out of 10 MANAGEMENT can even get out of being responsible under our current system.

I say, eliminate "ownership" of patents by corporations. Make them be assigned, licensed or leased to the corp by the INDIVIDUAL, and you would see a much different system evolve.

Oh, and as a web developer, I have to say that software patents are a stain on our nation that should be permanently erased.
