It really is amazing to have 7 of 7 posts that I completely agree with!
Having said that, with my long marketing background, I have to wonder if
Apple didn't also have the $100 rebate ready to go as part of their product
pricing and marketing strategy.
It is a masterstroke:
- it lets Jobs look humble (much as I respect the guy, it's not usually his
strong suit),
- it lets Apple lead again (nobody else, least of all Motorola/Razr, is doing
anything similar at this level) thus putting pricing and customer satisfaction
pressure (current and future) on competitors,
- it doesn't cost all that much (some % will never redeem, those that do
only "cost" Apple the profit on whatever they buy) and I strongly suspect it
was factored in the initial pricing strategy anyway,
- on balance, it improves Apple's image with new or prospective customers
(we zealots don't need stroking),
- and it brings even more people into the stunningly successful Apple
Stores.
What's not to like? And to shut up those doubters who thought it was a
desperation move by Apple to make their "1 million iPhones by the end of
September," tonight's TV news announces they already made that goal--
and there hasn't been time for the price cuts to make a huge impact on
sales. I am impressed, and you have to know Jobs has a pipeline all lined up
of iPhone enhancements, variations, etc., to drive sales.
Now, my only problem is that profound pain in my rear from kicking myself
for not buying some Apple stock 3 years ago--or 2 years--or a year ago!
And I see in today's issue of Fortune magazine that Apple made, for the
first time, their list of fastest growing companies. Simply amazing. - Posted by: frabjous Posted on: 09/10/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
