You know your theory is possible...still
The iPhone for it's first full month of sales ie just July outsold all other so called
"SmartPhones". Now that Apple has a proven track record and the addition of
other iPod models especially the iPod Touch which component wise is very much
the iPhone lite and the added factor of manufactoring bugs being worked out I
think Apple could very well have gotten much better prices for components and
increased manufacturing efficiencies.

Still I will grant you that AT&T lock in is annoying but I have to admit I don't know
all the circumstances so I'm on the fence.....who knows maybe this had to be?
