So what they are trying to say is: If you or I buy the hardware. They are not known as a 'telco' anymore? So why doesn't Vontage give away the hardware and sell the service. Or Better yet, create an Internet Phone System that uses people unused modems in there PC's tied into there local telco's to provide local calling thru broadband. That way if it costs to call someone in say NYC, It could use the net to find an open PC that is providing EOS (End Of Service) in that area, and use VOIP to make the call thru there PC,from there to a local number . . . Give that Idea a few days/months/years you will see it . . .
