This wasn't about lock in
It was about the threat of copyright and much more so patents to open source.
The fact that you can use and change source now does not mean you can in the future because somebody might claim to hold a patent that covers the software you are using. Your rights could be revoked at that time. Nothing to do with lockin or Red Hat.
