Second Source
By your logic, if second source is the answer then any software app that isn't cross platform is part of the problem and not part of the solution.

Hence, Microsoft and all their software (which if it were a family tree would be a straight line) are definitely NOT part of the solution.

Wel I have been saying similar things for years as have many IT professionals. You need to evaluate products and services with the maximum amount of flexibility for your infrastructure/implementation. Will this database transfer to a different OS? Can the data port? Can the middleware language for this DB be used with other DB's should it need ported to a new DB? Can this language that I develop in be used on other platforms? Etc etc.

These are all answers that some vendors are beginning to understand but others are still trying to lock you in to their products and ONLY their products...which is not a solution unless you are just a braindead IT manager. Always prepare for that inevitable day in which you may have to make major changes to your infrastructure? Can it adapt? If not then evolution will take it's toll and it demands a hefty price. Making those changes after the fact can cost a fortune if you don't prepare for the possibillity ahead of time.

The reed which cannot bend in the wind, will snap.
