Wi-Fi is insecure
Wi-Fi, as people typically use it today, is insecure regardless of your power source. If you're not encrypting your Wi-Fi traffic, anyone with a little tech savvy and a few free tools can watch everything you are doing, including passwords, credit numbers, intellectual property, and the sordid details of your life.

If you encrypt your network traffic, either by using WPA on the access point, https on the web site, or a VPN to your company network, then your information is hidden from prying eyes.

Also, our fellow poster's idea of putting security and encryption at the OS level is a good idea. It just needs to be extremely easy to use before it will be used widely enough to be effective.
