- Indeed I do use Wi-Fi.

And the model I just described would be no more insecure than the model we already have. What I described is a change only in the transport layer and below. Security is traditionally handled point-to-point at the application layer level.
In fact, I'd love to see the connectivity mesh model combined with newer generation operating systems that have security and encryption implemented at the kernel level such that all communications could be made reliably secure regardless of their content without slowing everyone's system to a crawl.
But that's a totally different discussion. The point is, the original comment got WiMAX and Wi-Fi completely backwards. He was touting Wi-Fi as the non-free, centralized status quo and WiMAX as the solution to bring power to the people (there, I said it). In fact, WiMAX is just a new way to guarantee the status quo. Wi-Fi has the potential, under-utilized as it is, to radically alter the way we connect and break the centralized, hierarchical business models of current ISPs. - Posted by: kuronekoyama Posted on: 08/30/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
