WiMax - It is our democracy and well being, Solis Energy
Lets get real, prior to and after a hurricane the towers for connectivity will be down, at least temporarily. Plus unregulated WiFi will not be available to the common man as it gets deployed for the wealthy only because - well - it is unregulated. Gathering investors and lobbying for more Wi-Fi technology is not in the nation's best interest. Solis Energy is an enemy of the USA if it proceeds with that.

Rather, Solis Energy should work towards WiMax - the dot commons. That will allow even the lower 9th ward connectivity sooner or during a hurricane because fewer towers are needed and hence some of those are likely to be out of the damage area.

WiMax was recognized in the pre Brownie days by the FCC as a mechanism of communication using the existing < 1Ghz regulated bandwidth for disasters like 911 and Katrina. This is because < 1Ghz bandwidth will penetrate structures where > 1 Ghz can not. So fire fighters with cell phones are reachable when the cell phone uses WiMax at < 1 Ghz where they and the victims were not with > 1 Ghz cell phone technology.

Lets get companies like Solis Energy into WiMax and regulated < 1 Ghz technology and identify all those trying to privatize that spectrum and promote WiFi and last mile connectivity wire line to protect out-of-country investors from loses.

The USA is not like Europe. We already have FREE wireless broadband from sea to shining sea and WiMax is the standard that will turn that into the dot commons - Free and Universal Access to Web 2.0. Wimax - its our democracy.
