ACER - a laptop maker with probably the world's worst reputation for after-sales service - is to buy Gateway; the pc maker with the world's worst pre-sales reputation.
This is the elephant clinging to the rhino as they both get savaged by the crocodiles. Dell and HP will (continue to) run rings round them.
ACER can't compete in the US and Europe because they can't speak the language of service. They are arrogantly Chinese; a major cultural problem for all Chinese firms. They just don't get it, the service thing. Try using their web site; or, if you're really into pain, phoning them.
If you've already bought an ACER and it's broken; try getting it repaired or, better yet, exchanged under warranty.
As for Gateway; they had it and lost it. There's no way back for them; they don't even have a brand worth saving. In fact, they have the reverse; a brand to bury as quickly as possible.
