jobs are still plentiful for the genuinely competent
As the article suggests, all these people were "over" employed before. Specifically:

"Cavazos, who has ... a master's of business administration from Pfeiffer University. "Here I am throwing mail with an MBA. I was totally embarrassed." Anyone who is proud of an MBA from Pfeiffer University has no idea what a good university is.

"Juliette Katz spent the past seven years sharpening her resume as a marketing manager at America Online, Food.com and other Internet start-ups." Yup, those companies all destroyed value and went out of business, or close. Most likely she never created any value, just pushed paper and spent company money.

"Gouda, who used to produce and write scripts for now-defunct Web soap opera The Spot, got lucky last year and won $100,000 on the game show "Greed." In other words, he got lucky twice. Maybe if the scripts had been good, the show would not be defunct.

"Bob Muldoon is also losing optimism. The 42-year-old Methuen, Mass., resident got laid off in April from a quality assurance (QA) job at Tower Street, a software start-up specializing in online quote systems for insurance agents." Everyone in the industry knows that QA jobs are for those who are weak technically. "quote systems for insurance" are a technological backwater. This guy's resume is a red flag that he is just not technically strong. Having two MS degrees is also a red flag: anyoe who is good has a thriving career with just one.

"Jason Anthony Benavides knows that his computer and networking certifications are becoming staler by the moment". Sounds like he has mickey-mouse certficates but no real education, i.e. no BS from a selective college.
