PDP 11/73 for process control
We still have old PDP 11/73 systems controlling the gap control system of a hot steel rolling mill.
These were installed in 1986 and up to a coupel of years ago, actually booted off the same single sided floppy disks. We "upgraded" them with some old hard drives of equal vintage as there were no more spare floppy drive components.
The whole control system fits in 640K of RAM and has control loops down to 10 milliseconds.
Not bad for equipment of this age.
