Ah, me; what fun!
The Curta "Pepper Grinder" was aa absolutely required tool for TSD (Time, Speed, Distance) rally navigators.

And here's a link to the mainframe computer that I began my digital processing career on back in '68.

Incidentally, on the page under "Sources" there's a link to "SAGE Film." Not only does it explain some of the workings of the SAGE system, but at the end mentions development of the airborne computer system that I first started on in '66 on B-52's.

An extraordinary amount of what we know today in the computing world had its beginning with Whirlwind/SAGE.

And it's STILL fun!
