Ridiculous!
Cite the story - otherwise, it's just spreading urban legends. There is no risk associated with a CFL bulb breaking except for the broken glass - as with any light bulb. If a mother quarantined their child's room... there's something wrong with the mother, not the lightbulb.

And CFLs are less likely to "explode" than office fluorescent tubes - and have you heard horror stories about that?

Stop spreading misinformation - or, shun all products that are similarly dangerous, and give up cars, meat, and plain old-fashioned incandescent bulbs, which, doncha know, can cause fires! Dangerous things....
