read carefully, son
I didn't select an alternative fuel. In fact, although I'd put myself more in the environmentalist camp than any other camp, I'm majorly disgusted by the lack of complete information about all the alternatives and the implications of them... like the corn based ethanol initiative's effect on food prices. And trust me, I'm nervous about cutting down forests for fuel, given that corn is a annual crop, but trees take years to grow. Still, if those branches are being left to rot, it's a good idea to use them. I suspect however, that there are other uses for them (paper pulp?) that will be impacted. As I said, we need impartial analysis about ALL the effects of the proposed changes... not something we're likely to see from lobby sponsored studies, which all seem to have an agenda for one group or another.
I agree we need more info and some of the alternatives are not going to be any improvement. Most likely, the long term solution is going to be a mix of things.

But any fool that thinks things will get better if we "just stick to oil and keep finding new places to drill" has their head buried in the sand and isn't EVER going to see a better tomorrow.
