Something got lost in the translation from chemistry to ZDNet
"Tree branches will go into a large tank where enough heat and pressure are applied to the mix to turn it into a gas."

I don't know of any way enough heat and pressure could vaporize a tree branch without burning it, in which case you're already past ethanol to carbon dioxide. Sorry, the reporter missed a(?) step there.
