Oh I know about the power grid issues...
I live in California AND I am an Energy Analyst. Bottom line the change from oil to electric will have to occur. And the sooner it starts the better on so many levels.

Parking garages can be outfitted with solar arrays, and yes they do work even on cloudy days. Solar and wind turbines combined locally can mitigate the need to draw such a hard load on the main grid. Same thing applies to businesses with large IT infrastructures.

The entire infrastructure will need to be upgraded soon anyhow! Many sections of our electrical grid is close to 100 years old. Part of the initial problem is the rapid demand growth for power. You can thank Personal Computers and Microwave ovens for that. The original grid was not designed with so many personal electronic devices in the home. The reality is they are. Again solar and wind can augment and offset these loads while driving their efficiency levels up.

Amazingly PV systems have gone from 11% to just over 20% in the last 4 years. Imagine if the market started demanding even more...

Either way we are going to have to pay for the infrastructure, best to do it now while we can.

The bottom line is you and others like you need to stop seeing $$$ signs and understand that our entire way of life is in jeopardy. Hydro is a no go, many of the rivers are drying up. Solar and thermal storage is an excellent alternative. NASA is working on an orbital solar station now (for clarification, design phase) with plans to eventually put solar collectors in geosync orbit and bean the energy produced to power stations on the ground for dispersal.

Your sarcasm is not only wanted it does nothing to face up to the fact that we as a nation and as a race are up s*** creek and the paddle just floated off out of reach. Global warming is happening, as an avid backpacker I am seeing first hand the effects. And I am not alone. Gasoline is old school and out dated. It's time we move into the 21st century.
