Electric has other advantages.
A renewable Energy source can be used to recharged an EV.
Eliminating most CO2 emissions. (Wind, solar, hydro).

EV's are more reliable vehicle.
EV's are by far and away more efficient. ~100Wh/mile.
Fewer moving parts to wear out. No muffler, radiator, emiision control, carb, etc. (lower maint.)
Longer brake life since most energy recaptured during braking and wasted.

Complements a power grid based on renewables. (Smart recharging during peak RE production, reverse the energy flow during slack periods.)

Reduces the amount of infrastructure needed.
(Pipelines, super tankers, refineries, gas stations, ports, drilling rigs, production platforms, etc. ) all of which consumes a considerable fraction of our resources.

Eliminates the need to meddle in other countries. (IRAQ?)..

Finally.. The cost of Gasoline is being heavily subsidized.
I.E. You're not seeing the true cost. (not even close).

It's been estimated that the long term CO2 enviromental cost of gasoline CO2 emissions would run approximately ~20 to 30$(US) per gallon. (~550 dollars per barrel of oil)..

DOD costs currently run in the 65$ per barrel range.

===

In a world that's facing a run-away global warming effect, EVs are the only way to go.
