The math still favors gas
A 30 mpg sedan = $10/100 miles at $3.00/gallon for gas.
Electric car = perhaps $2/100 miles. (The failure to report kilowatt hours needed to recharge from a 100 mile trip demonstrates weak reporting, ZDNet.)

So I spend $15,000 on a 30mpg sedan and spend a total of $10k on gas and $15k on the car in the first 100,000 miles. Or get an electric and spend $32k on the car and $2k on "fueld" in the first 100,000 miles.

Gas would have to hit $6/gallon for an electric sedan at this price point to match a 30mpg sedan. For now, someone interested in saving money is still best served by a small gas sedan (and keeping the money in the US economy if you buy American made). Not a hybrid. Not an electric.
