Plenty!
"How much coal and oil will need to be burned to generate the electricity?"

How much is needed to haul oil from some middle eastern country to the USA? A whole lot more, I dare say.

In fact, people have already crunched the numbers: The emissions needed to charge an electric vehicle are still less than half of what's produced by a 60 MPG gasoline vehicle.

"Also take into consideration the inefficiency of transmission."

The Tesla Roadster has two gears, and most electric cars are direct to the wheels with no transmission. Transmission loss barely exists in an electric vehicle. Your gasoline vehicle, on the other hand . . .

"Why not just buy a fuel efficient vehicle such as the new 60 mpg+ Smart Car which is coming in the fall?"

It's got half the mileage of an electric. It's got no horsepower. And it's ugly.

The point of these new electric sedans is to bring electric vehicles to the general public, not just to environmentalist junkies that don't mind a slow, ugly car.

Are they really bringing the SMART car to the USA? Blech. No thanks, I'll wait for an electric sedan.
