geez... net gain?
and you see gas consumption as efficient? how much energy do u think it takes to get it out of the ground, haul it half a world away, refine it, get it in the distribution network, and burn it?

let me put it to you another way -- wouldn't it be nice to charge a car for $1 instead of $100 (for my truck?) look up phoenix motorcars... they have an excellent solution and quick charge (10 minute) option. even if you look at a 60 mpg smart car, you're still going to be paying 5 cents per mile in fuel, verses 1 cent per mile for electricity.

you can completely get rid of the coal / oil power generation concern by going solar / wind / nuclear.

for every dollar you don't give to the oil companies, that's less power and control they have over you and our government.
