One of the greatest recent contributions to the open source community
The OpenJDK project is fantastic and well on target to achieving it's goal of 100%
open source version of the JDK.

6.5+ million lines of code contributed by Sun to the community under a GPL v2
license with a binary and classpath exemption allowing for running closed source
Java bytecode applications.

Clearly GPLv2 was always going to cause problems for the Apache team, but IMO a
very good choice for Sun and Java users not concerned about rebundling Sun's
work for commercial gain.
