Linux Compiling

Ah... good ol' Loverock. Closed-minded to outside his own experiences.

If you go through the proper channels for software and not your cousin Joe, you are fine. Pay attention to releases. Compiling Linux software is not buggy.

As for linux being a bunch of "sloppy code" being patched... please! Linux has done a very good job of modularizing the OS so where one component doesn't kill another. It's not patching patches, it's giving you what you need without the bloat, like some other OS's. So then, if this concept is so bad, why is MS taking note and putting some of this into Server 2008?

As an authorized reseller, we sell hardware pieces that are completely branded by the manufacturer. We sell the service to configure and support them, even though it's not our hardware. In the same fashion, PC makers/RedHat/SuSE/etc make their money off of specific software and support.



Take a gander outside your own experiences. It's kind of nice out here.
