Juries aren't the problem, either ...
Much as I hate to say it, the jury system has reasonable safeguards built into it. Punitive awards are not something invented by juries, but by Congress in how the law was written. Appeals are automatic because there is a 4:1 chance that punitive damages will be reduced or overturned at the appellate level.

The problem: lawyers, outrageous fees and incentives. No matter who wins or loses, the lawyers get rich for non-value added work. It creates a significant drain on the economy and abuses the trust of people who expect justice from our legal system.
